Interview:

James was interviewed by gymnast and trainee coach, Abbie:

Abbie: What does it feel like to go back to training after all this time?
James: I was a bit apprehensive at first however it feels amazing. 4 years was a long time to be out after I retired but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up and I am loving every minute.

Abbie: How did you feel when you won the Westminster Shield as London’s Best Gymnast 2010?
James: When I retired that was the one title I wanted and always just missed out. So to achieve it after just 4 month back I was so proud - it’s an amazing honour.

Abbie: Are you looking forward to being the last 30 for the commonwealth games?
James: In my wildest dreams I didn’t expect to be called back. There are so many talented guys in this country, so to be amongst the elite 30 is a huge thing for me and the Academy.

Abbie: Where do you see yourself and J’amies Gymnastics Academy in 5 years time?
James: I always said that I wanted JGA to be the biggest recreational gymnastics academy in the country. In my opinion we are currently the best academy in London, and in 5 years time we will fulfil our initial ambition.

Abbie: What would you say is the best thing about gymnastics as a sport?
James: The same thing we teach our young members - Gymnastics is fun for boys, girls, men and women of all ages. No pressure just fun.

Abbie: Why do you think J’amies Gymnastics Academy has been such a huge success?
James: I think it is mainly down to our philosophy. We don’t pressure children; we create a fun environment for children and adults to be in. Our unique setup and brilliant coach base is something that cannot be rivalled.

Abbie: What was it that inspired you to pursue gymnastics as your chosen sport?
James: I was a very active child to say the least, and I think my dad was fed up with broken beds and sofas so gymnastics was the solution.

Abbie: If you could take one thing to a desert island, what would it be?
James: Amie, my fiancée. She is my best friend and means everything to me. She co-owns JGA with me and is also my agent for outside the Academy. I would be rather lost without her and would miss her too much so I think I would have to smuggle her in my suitcase ha ha.
